California lawsuit alleges PFAS in tampons cause reproductive harm
Seven women in California have filed a lawsuit against major feminine‑hygiene manufacturers, including Kimberly Clark Corporation, claiming that tampons contain per‑ and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) and other harmful chemicals. The plaintiffs allege the chemicals led to severe reproductive injuries such as miscarriages, polyendocrine metabolic ovarian syndrome, chronic heavy bleeding and pelvic pain.
Kimberly Clark has moved to transfer the case from the Los Angeles County Superior Court to the United States District Court for the Central District of California, seeking a federal‑level adjudication. The suit follows a Harvard‑led study published in *Environmental Research* that linked PFAS in tampons to health risks, and notes that the same products are sold in Germany.
If successful, the case could increase scrutiny of chemical disclosures in menstrual products and impact consumer safety standards worldwide.
