California missing child case finds potential lead in North Carolina
A girl who disappeared from Duarte, California, in June 2020 has potentially been located after nearly six years. The child, who was five years old at the time of her disappearance, was last seen on June 2, 2020.
Following the disappearance, the Los Angeles County Department of Children and Family Services conducted an investigation. Authorities believed the child's mother, who held custody, may have taken her after ceasing contact with the agency. The case was officially reported to the Temple Station of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department on July 1, 2020.
In December 2025, the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) released an age-progressed image of the girl, who would have been 11 years old. A significant breakthrough occurred on March 6, 2026, when investigators received information suggesting the girl might be in North Carolina, over 4,000 kilometers away from her disappearance site. The lead was transferred to the Washington County Sheriff's Office for verification.
