California officials to pursue charges after coyote attack in Atwater Village

The California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) plans to file a case with the Los Angeles City Attorney regarding the illegal feeding of wildlife in Atwater Village. This follows an incident where a coyote bit a 16-month-old toddler in the 3300 block of Glenhurst Avenue.

Authorities confirmed through DNA analysis that the coyote euthanized by game wardens was the same animal that attacked the child. Local residents reported that the coyote, which had been seen in the area for months, had become increasingly bold. Some neighbors alleged that an unidentified resident had been feeding the animal for several months despite requests to stop.

If the city attorney pursues the case, the resident could face misdemeanor charges. Los Angeles Animal Services expressed sadness over the incident and acknowledged the community's concerns regarding coyote activity.
