California police arrest suspect after storm drain escape attempt
A high-speed pursuit on the westbound 91 Freeway near the Green River Road exit ended with a suspect being taken into custody after attempting to hide in a storm drain. The incident occurred in early October and involved the Corona Police Department and the Riverside Police Department.
Officers successfully utilized a Grappler device, a technology designed to stop fleeing vehicles by wrapping a net around the rear wheel, to bring the suspect's car to a halt. Following the vehicle's stop, the driver fled on foot and crawled into a storm drain in an attempt to evade capture. Authorities tracked the individual within the drainage system and arrested him without further incident.
The suspect was reportedly wanted on an active felony warrant and for reckless evading. The Riverside Police Department had recently introduced the Grappler technology in September, following a successful deployment in late August.
