California primary election results put Becerra and Hilton ahead in governor's race

Statewide primary vote counts released on June 2 show Democratic candidate Xavier Becerra leading with 27.9% and Republican Steve Hilton close behind with 25% in the California governor's race, positioning both for the November general election. In the same primary, Democrat Jane Kim leads the Insurance Commissioner contest, while Republican Stacy Korsgaden trails.

County-level tallies in San Luis Obispo confirm Hilton holding a local lead (28.8% to Becerra’s 24.3%). Other county races show incumbents and challengers advancing, such as Jim Paulding in Supervisor District 4. The Madera County results list top vote‑getters for U.S. House districts, state offices and local positions, with the highest turn‑out at 23.08% and more than 19,000 ballots cast.

These results shape the slate of candidates heading into the November ballot across California’s statewide and local offices.
