Medical professionals and wildlife agencies are issuing safety warnings following rattlesnake encounters in residential areas and outdoor spaces. In Calabasas, California, firefighters were called to a home to remove a venomous snake found in a backyard play area near children's toys.

Dr. Samna Rasheed of Dignity Health Mercy Medical Group notes that children are particularly vulnerable due to their curiosity. Experts recommend that families stick to cleared trails, avoid tall grass and rocky areas, and ensure children wear closed-toe shoes. To prevent bites, parents should supervise outdoor activities closely and teach children never to approach or touch a snake.

In the event of a bite, medical advice emphasizes staying calm and immobilizing the affected limb at or below heart level while seeking immediate emergency medical attention. Authorities warn against using home remedies such as cutting the wound, attempting to suck out venom, or applying a tourniquet, as these can cause further injury. Symptoms of venomous bites may include severe pain, swelling, discoloration, nausea, vomiting, or difficulty breathing.
