California reports car burglary deterrents and license plate evasion
In California, two separate incidents involving vehicle-related crimes and evasion have been reported.
A TikTok creator in Los Angeles, known as Sebastian, has implemented a psychological tactic to deter car burglaries after experiencing over twenty break-ins. His method involves leaving a handwritten note on the window stating, “Please do not burglarize my car, there is 2 dollars inside,” while leaving a small amount of cash visible and the vehicle unlocked. He also utilizes unconventional deterrents such as salt under the tires and a sock filled with stones hanging from the rearview mirror.
In Solano County, highway police intercepted a Volkswagen Jetta driver using an illegal device designed to hide the vehicle's license plate. Dashcam footage captured the plate being concealed and then revealed. The driver reportedly used the system to evade tolls on Express lanes and San Francisco Bay bridges. Under California law, using such equipment is illegal and can result in significant fines and penalties for unpaid tolls.
