California traffic sign warns drivers of falling cows
A unique traffic warning sign depicting a falling cow exists in the United States, specifically in California. While often dismissed as an internet gag or a digitally altered image, a spokesperson from the Wyoming Department of Transportation confirmed that such signs are used in areas where cattle pastures are located directly above roads.
The sign warns drivers of the risk of falling livestock or rocks dislodged by animals on steep cliffs. The danger is not purely theoretical; in 2007, a 270-kilogram cow fell approximately 60 meters from a cliff onto a minivan on Highway 150 near Manson, Washington.
