California transit agencies to offer free rides for Clean Air Day
Various transit agencies across California will offer free rides on October 7 in observance of California Clean Air Day, an annual initiative aimed at improving air quality.
In Southern California, Metrolink has announced it will waive fares throughout its 545-mile system and on its Arrow service. Other regional providers, including Los Angeles Metro, Orange County Bus, Riverside Transit Agency, and the North County Transit District in San Diego, also plan to offer free service. Metrolink officials noted that the initiative provides a timely alternative for residents facing high gasoline prices.
In the Central Coast region, the Santa Barbara County Association of Governments is partnering with several agencies to provide free rides, including the Santa Barbara Metropolitan Transit District, Santa Maria Regional Transit, and the City of Lompoc Transit. Additionally, the Ventura County Transportation Commission will offer free rides on the Coastal Express. These agencies highlighted ongoing investments in zero-emission and battery-electric vehicle fleets as part of their commitment to cleaner transportation.
