California voters express dissatisfaction with Gavin Newsom's tenure
A new poll conducted by TrueDot in collaboration with UC Berkeley’s Citrin Center and Politico reveals that 62% of California registered voters rate Governor Gavin Newsom’s overall performance as fair or poor. Only 36% of respondents provided an excellent or good rating, while 39% rated his performance as poor.
The survey highlights significant dissatisfaction regarding specific policy areas, most notably homelessness and housing. Approximately 72% of voters criticized his handling of homelessness, and 69% disapproved of his management of the housing crisis. These negative assessments extend to his own political base, with 57% of Democrats and Democratic-leaning voters rating his homelessness response negatively.
Nearly two-thirds of respondents indicated they want the next governor to take California in a new direction. In response to the findings, a spokesperson for Newsom defended his record, citing his previous electoral victories and his status as a popular outgoing governor.
