California voters to decide on sports betting legalization

California voters will decide on two efforts to legalize sports betting this November. While lawmakers attempted to negotiate a sports betting package in 2020, those efforts were unsuccessful.

The new measures are supported by major online gambling operators, including DraftKings, FanDuel, and BetMGM. Current legal gambling in the state is limited to Indian gambling enterprises operating under compacts negotiated between the state and Native American tribes. Until online sports betting is legalized in California, offshore sportsbooks and certain gaming applications remain the primary options for bettors.
