California women face legal consequences for fatal stabbings

Two separate murder cases in California have resulted in legal resolutions.

A Riverside jury convicted Wynette Clara Nunez, 43, of second-degree murder for the 2021 stabbing death of her boyfriend, Mauro Villasenor. The incident occurred during a Fourth of July celebration in San Jacinto. Prosecutors indicated the motive stemmed from the victim's involvement with an ex-girlfriend. Nunez was also convicted of using a deadly weapon during the felony, and a sentencing hearing is scheduled for October 23.

In a separate incident, Yolanda Marodi, 54, was sentenced to 36 years to life in prison after pleading guilty to the second-degree murder of her wife, Cal Fire Captain Rebecca Marodi. The killing took place in February 2025 at their home in Ramona. Investigators determined the victim had sought to end the marriage shortly before the attack. Marodi, a veteran firefighter with over 30 years of service, sustained 23 stab wounds during the assault.
