Calimaya residents demand transparency over high school construction
Residents and political figures in Calimaya, State of Mexico, are demanding transparency regarding the construction of a new high school in the community of San Diego La Huerta. The project is part of the federal initiative to establish the “Margarita Maza” National High Schools.
Local inhabitants have organized protests to demand the relocation of the planned site. They claim the current chosen plot belongs to the local church and suggest that a different property, previously donated by the community for educational purposes, should be used instead.
Daniel Tarango López, a former municipal candidate for Movimiento Ciudadano, has called on Mayor Omar Guillermo Sánchez Velázquez to provide documented evidence regarding the project. Tarango López requested clarification on the origin of the funds, the specific government agency responsible for the budget, the legal instruments supporting the project, and the technical studies that justify the selection of the current site.
