Call of Duty 3 receives fan-made native PC version
A fan-led project named CoD3Recomp has brought Call of Duty 3 to Windows PCs as a native application, nearly two decades after its original release. The project utilizes static recompilation technology to convert the Xbox 360 PowerPC code into x86-64 C++ code, allowing the game to run directly on modern hardware without traditional emulation.
The native version offers several technical enhancements, including 4K resolution support, Direct3D 11 graphics, and unlocked frame rates. While experimental settings at 1080p have reached approximately 180 FPS, standard performance in complex scenes has been reported between 95 and 108 FPS. Players can also utilize full mouse and keyboard support with remappable keys, as well as adjustable field of view (FOV) settings.
To comply with legal requirements, the project does not distribute copyrighted data files. Users must provide their own compatible Xbox 360 disc images to run the executable. This release is not an official product from Activision.
