Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 PS4/PS5 Update Causes Temporary Ban Messages

Activision released an emergency update for Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 to improve match security and to review accounts with incorrect Prestige levels. The patch addresses a hacker problem in which unauthorized players altered Prestige levels, leading to unfair bans.

During the update, some players may briefly see an "account banned" notice when they are removed from a match or session. Activision clarified that this notice is a side effect of legacy systems and does not necessarily mean the account is actually suspended. If a player can reconnect after the message, the account has been processed successfully and no further action is required. Players who cannot reconnect are being enforced for evidence of intentional Prestige‑level manipulation or other violations of the Terms of Service.
