Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 adds Classic mode in Season 4 update

Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 introduced a new limited‑time mode called Black Ops Classic as part of its Season 4 update on June 5, 2026. The mode strips out omnimovement, wall‑jumping, sliding and stims, and limits play to classic maps such as Firing Range, Summit, Raid and Nuketown, aiming to replicate the movement style of Black Ops 2. Design director Matt Scronce said the goal was to “get as close to a classic movement set (Black Ops 2 as a target) as we could.”

Players have responded positively, calling the mode “exactly what Black Ops 7 should have been” and urging it become permanent. Some reviewers note the radical shift makes adjustment difficult for those accustomed to modern controls. The update arrives eight months after Black Ops 7’s launch and four months before the upcoming Modern Warfare 4, which will feature grounded movement without omnimovement.

The Classic mode’s reception may influence player retention ahead of Modern Warfare 4’s release, though its long‑term impact on the franchise remains uncertain.
