Callaghan College teachers participate in Big Freeze fundraiser

Teachers at Callaghan College in Waratah participated in the FightMND ‘Big Freeze’ fundraiser, where students watched educators get dunked in ice water to raise money for motor neurone disease (MND) research.

The initiative was led by teacher Hayley Banks, who was 16 when her sister, Jodie Bell, was diagnosed with the incurable disease. Through raffle ticket sales and other activities, the school raised over $5,000 on a single Friday, with additional funds expected from a sausage sizzle.

MND affects nerve cells called motor neurons, leading to progressive physical decline. According to MND Australia, there is currently no cure, and the average life expectancy is two to three years following diagnosis.
