Callao authorities to armor Corredor Rosado buses against extortion

The Provincial Municipality of Callao and operators of the Corredor Rosado have agreed to implement ballistic protection for their public transport fleet. This measure includes installing armored glass in windshields and side windows, as well as steel plating on the vehicle bodies to protect drivers from criminal attacks.

Callao Mayor César Pérez confirmed that companies within the transport consortium have been targeted by extortion attempts and demands for illegal payments by criminal organizations. To safeguard workers, the project aims to transform the driver's area into a bulletproof cabin using structural steel and certified ballistic glass.

The fleet, which consists of more than 50 buses connecting Mi Perú and Callao with Lima, is already equipped with GPS tracking and internal surveillance cameras. These signals are monitored in real time by the municipal surveillance center. Additionally, security efforts include the use of drones to monitor routes.

In a similar move, the Municipality of Lima announced it will also armor 250 buses from various companies, including Machu Picchu, Santa Cruz, De Luz, and Consorcio Vial, to combat similar security threats.
