Callao: Criminal known as 'Careca' assassinated in drive-by shooting

Giancarlo Zegarra Cuadros, known by the alias 'Careca', was assassinated on Saturday afternoon in the Callao province of Peru. The attack occurred on José Gálvez Avenue, near the border of the Bellavista and La Perla districts.

According to preliminary investigations, an unidentified assailant on a motorcycle approached Zegarra Cuadros's gray vehicle and opened fire. Police and forensic experts reported more than 10 bullet impacts on the vehicle, with several projectiles striking the driver, causing his death. One other person was reportedly wounded during the attack.

Zegarra Cuadros, 44, had a significant criminal history, including involvement in bank robberies in Lima and Trujillo, kidnappings, and murders. He was also noted for having escaped from the Lurigancho prison in 2013.
