Good Good Golf and Callaway apologize for controversial advertisement
YouTube golf group Good Good Golf and Callaway Golf have issued apologies following widespread backlash over a controversial promotional advertisement. The video, titled ‘The Driver,’ was created to promote the new Callaway Quantum Driver.
In the clip, Good Good creator Garrett Clark is shown sprinting toward fellow creator Alexis Miestowski and forcefully shoving her to the ground after she reaches for a club in his bag. Clark then stands over her and says, ‘Do not touch my new driver.’
The advertisement was quickly removed from both brands' social media channels after viewers accused the content of depicting violence against women and being tone-deaf to the growing participation of women in golf. Good Good released a statement saying the actions depicted were ‘not aligned with our values as a brand’ and reaffirmed their mission to make golf more inclusive.
Callaway expressed disappointment regarding the content and stated they look forward to working with Good Good to ensure a more inclusive space in the sport. The controversy comes as Good Good prepares to serve as the title sponsor for the Good Good Championship, part of the PGA Tour's FedEx Cup Fall in Austin, Texas.
