Callen, France: Elderly woman killed by her own dog

An elderly woman in her eighties was found dead in Callen, Landes, following a fatal attack by her own dog. The victim, a well-known local figure who served two terms as a municipal councilor and presided over the local festival committee, was discovered by her son on Tuesday evening.

The animal, a five-year-old Malinois that the woman had raised since it was a puppy, had reportedly never shown signs of aggression. Upon arriving at the scene, the victim's son found the dog still attacking her. The dog also reportedly attempted to attack the son before he managed to isolate the animal, which has since been moved to a kennel.

Yann Bouffin, the mayor of Callen, expressed the community's shock at the violence of the event. The victim's son was taken into custody for questioning but has since been released.
