Calls for better accessibility and free public access to La Paz beaches

During a July 30, 2026 visit to La Paz, Baja California Sur, national tourists praised the natural beauty of beaches such as El Caimancito, Playa Balandra and Isla Espíritu Santo, but pressed for urgent improvements in infrastructure, safety and inclusive access. Kimberly from Guadalajara highlighted the pleasant atmosphere, while Angélica Elizabeth Riva Palacio, who has visual and mobility disabilities, reported hazardous, poorly lit entrances at El Caimancito and La Concha, calling current conditions insufficient for disabled visitors.

Milena Quiroga Romero, former mayor and candidate to coordinate the state’s “Cuarta Transformación,” reiterated that the coastlines belong to the public and must remain freely accessible. She rejected any restrictions, emphasizing that tourism development should be sustainable and protect natural heritage while guaranteeing equitable use for all citizens and visitors. “Las playas son del pueblo. Sí al desarrollo, pero a un desarrollo sustentable,” she said.
