CalMatters wins Online Journalism Awards for immigration investigation

CalMatters has received multiple honors at the Online Journalism Awards. The news organization won first place for immigration reporting for its project, ‘Agents of Chaos: Tracking Border Patrol Operations Across the US,’ a collaborative investigation with Evident Media and Bellingcat.

The project, which utilized digital video storytelling, investigated aggressive tactics and misinformation related to Border Patrol operations. Judges noted the work provided visual verification and field reporting to establish patterns of conduct across various cities. CalMatters also secured first place for ‘License to Kill’ in the explanatory reporting category and was a finalist for its ‘My Legislator’ newsletter.
