Calorie restriction and biohacking trends linked to longevity research

New research published in the journal Cell suggests that calorie restriction may play a significant role in slowing aging processes by improving genetic stability. A genome-wide study involving institutions such as NYU Langone and University Hospitals Cleveland analyzed mice subjected to a 30% reduction in calorie intake. The findings indicate that this restriction significantly reduces somatic mutations—genetic changes in body cells that drive tissue dysfunction and age-related diseases—including substitutions, small insertions, and deletions.

Parallel to clinical research, the trend of “biohacking” is growing as individuals seek to optimize health and longevity through various methods. Practices include using infrared light, monitoring biometric data via wearable rings, and utilizing supplements to maintain optimal vitamin levels. While experts like pathophysiologist Markus Mandl from Johannes Kepler University Linz note the potential of focusing on mitochondrial function, they also advise caution, noting that many longevity-focused methods lack conclusive scientific validation. Some researchers suggest that the biological limit for human lifespan may be approximately 120 years.
