Calp waste collection strike called off after labor agreement

The indefinite waste collection strike in Calp has been called off following a late-night agreement between workers and the concessionaire company, Acciona. Mayor Ana Sala announced that after 15 hours of negotiations, an agreement was reached at 2:15 a.m.

Workers had been demanding a 15% wage increase to be applied over three years. While the full details of the settlement have not been released, it is expected that the municipal government may have played a role in addressing salary increases that were not originally accounted for in the existing contract.

The strike, which began on August 6, had caused significant accumulation of refuse in the streets, affecting both residents and tourists during the August heat. Following the agreement, waste collection services resumed early this morning to clear the accumulated waste.
