Calpe Mayor reports unsanitary conditions due to waste strike

The Mayor of Calpe, Ana Sala, has reported a situation of unsanitary conditions to Public Health authorities following a seven-day indefinite strike by waste management workers. The strike has resulted in large amounts of refuse accumulating throughout the municipality.

Local officials have called on both the contractor, Acciona, and the striking workforce to reach an agreement to end the crisis. The municipal government has accused Acciona of failing to meet minimum service requirements and has threatened the company with sanctions of up to 50,000 euros.
