Calrec to showcase software-defined audio solutions at IBC 2026

Calrec will demonstrate its evolving audio ecosystem and software-defined capabilities at IBC 2026. The company plans to preview enhancements to its ImPulseV DSP software, which were developed in alignment with the European Broadcasting Union’s (EBU) Dynamic Media Facility (DMF) project.

Key technical developments include the addition of Media eXchange Layer (MXL) support to ImPulseV. This initiative aims to facilitate software-defined workflows by allowing containerized software functions from different vendors to use shared memory for transferring video, audio, and metadata on a single server stack. This approach is intended to reduce compute requirements and hardware investment for broadcasters.

The ImPulseV engine supports up to 256 processing paths and all immersive audio formats. It can be deployed on-premises via standard COTS servers, on public cloud infrastructure, or through hybrid models. Calrec is also introducing new, smaller DSP pack sizes of 96 and 140 processing paths to accommodate smaller systems. To increase accessibility, the company has introduced flexible subscription licensing options, including 4-week, 12-week, and 1-year terms.

Additionally, Calrec is working with Grass Valley’s AMPP ecosystem. ImPulseV will support the AMPP control SDK, allowing applications running on AMPP to directly control console parameters, such as fader control.
