Caltagirone celebrates Luminaria dell’Apparizione
In Caltagirone, the “Luminaria dell’Apparizione” was held on August 14 and 15 to honor Maria SS. del Ponte, the city's patron saint. The event commemorated the 454th anniversary of a Marian apparition to a child.
The celebration featured the illumination of the 142-step Scala di Santa Maria del Monte. Using 3,480 colored “coppi” in white, red, green, and blue, the display was designed by local artist Giuseppe Ales. The intricate pattern depicted the historical coat of arms of Caltagirone, the Madonna del Ponte holding the Christ Child, and various decorative elements including a bridge and stars. The festivities also included a pyrotechnic show launched from the top of the staircase.
