Caltagirone's Gravina Hospital resumes organ donation with successful liver procurement

The Gravina Hospital in Caltagirone has successfully performed a liver procurement, marking the resumption of organ donation activities at the facility after a period of interruption. The procedure was made possible by the decision of the family of a patient who had been admitted to the Anesthesia and Resuscitation unit following a severe cerebral hemorrhage.

The operation involved a multidisciplinary collaboration between the Ismett specialist team from Palermo, the medical staff of the Gravina Hospital, and the Sicily Regional Transplant Center. Giuseppe Laganga Senzio, General Director of the Asp di Catania, noted that the intervention confirms the value of a hospital network capable of operating in full integration with regional transplant coordination.

Medical professionals involved in the coordinated effort included specialists from neurology, anesthesia, and the hospital's medical direction, ensuring the successful transition of the organ to a patient currently awaiting a transplant.
