Caltagirone: Restoration nears completion at Chiesa del Carmine

Restoration efforts are nearing completion at the Chiesa del Monte Carmelo in Caltagirone, five years after a structural collapse in August 2021. The collapse resulted in the loss of significant late Baroque paintings.

Claudio Lo Monaco, the Councilor for Cultural Heritage for the Municipality of Caltagirone, noted that the building is finally receiving its roof coverage. He reflected on the difficult years following the incident, citing initial delays and challenges in securing funding and executive projects. The recovery process involved cooperation between the Municipality, the Diocese, and the Superintendency of Catania.
