Caltanissetta: 22-year-old motorcyclist killed in highway collision

A 22-year-old motorcyclist, identified as Kevin Garzia, died following a collision in a tunnel on the SS640 highway near Caltanissetta. The accident occurred in the early afternoon at kilometer 54.508, heading toward the A19 Palermo-Catania motorway junction.

Garzia, a baker from Caltanissetta, reportedly collided with a tow truck for reasons still under investigation. Despite the rapid arrival of emergency medical services, firefighters, and highway police, the young man died at the scene due to the severity of his injuries.

The State Road 640 was temporarily closed to traffic following the incident. Authorities established a detour through the Caltanissetta Sud junction, directing motorists via the SS626 to rejoin normal traffic flow. Highway police are conducting investigations to reconstruct the dynamics of the crash and determine liability.
