Caltanissetta Council Approves Waste Tax Plan; Regional Health Authority Summons ASP Leaders
On 30 July 2026 the Caltanissetta municipal council, chaired by President Gianluca Bruzzaniti, unanimously approved the Economic‑Financial Plan (PEF) for determining the local waste tax (Tari) for the 2026‑2029 period, as required by the national regulator. The proposal was presented by Claudio Bennardo and supported by reviewers Rosa Leone and Angelo Scalia. The council also postponed part of the session to discuss additional budgetary items and to accommodate the reopening ceremony of the Raimondo Collodoro municipal pool.
Separately, the regional health department called the senior managers of the local health authority (ASP) to a meeting in early August, responding to complaints from Mayor Terenziano Di Stefano about delays in the “Vittorio Emanuele” hospital upgrade and the new hospital project at Ponte Olivo. The mayor and local Democratic Party officials have asked for the regional health assessor Marcello Caruso and health minister Orazio Schillaci to be summoned to address alleged systemic dysfunctions and funding reallocations.
