Cefpas investigation: Court annuls Capodieci suspension, orders Gallo house arrest

The Caltanissetta Reexamination Court has issued conflicting rulings regarding the “Corte dei miracoli” investigation involving the Cefpas center and the Agrigento Provincial Health Authority (Asp).

In a significant development, the court annulled the six-month suspension from public office for Giuseppe Capodieci, the former general director of the Asp of Agrigento. Capodieci, who had previously resigned, was investigated for alleged corruption alongside former regional deputy Riccardo Gallo. Prosecutors alleged that administrative functions were used to favor private interests, specifically regarding a convention intended to facilitate the transfer of Gallo’s wife to the Agrigento province.

Conversely, the court has upheld the prosecution's appeal regarding Riccardo Gallo. Judges have ordered house arrest for the former politician, though the measure remains suspended pending a decision by the Court of Cassation. Prosecutors argue that Gallo’s resignation from the regional assembly did not mitigate the risk of him using his political influence to manipulate administrative decisions and professional assignments at Cefpas and the Asp.
