Caltanissetta hosts Francesco Avanzato Memorial basketball tournament

The CLBasket3x3 – First Francesco Avanzato Memorial concluded in Caltanissetta, Italy, at the Michele Talluto court. The five-day sporting event was dedicated to Francesco Avanzato, a young person who passed away last year due to an incurable oncological pathology.

Organized as part of the ‘Spazio Amico è Casa’ project, the tournament featured 108 young athletes across minibasket, under, and over categories. The project provides free psychological support, home assistance, social secretariat, ludotherapy, housing, transport, and telemedicine to children with cancer and their families in the provinces of Catania, Enna, and Caltanissetta.

The initiative is funded by the Italian Ministry of Labour and Social Policies through the SAMOT Catania ETS association. The event was supported by the Italian Red Cross of Caltanissetta, which provided continuous medical assistance. Over 500 people attended the final evening, where organizers highlighted the project's services and encouraged the community to help identify children in need of support.
