Caltanissetta judge archives mafia-procurement probe into 1992 massacres

A judge in Caltanissetta has archived the investigation into the link between the mafia and public procurement contracts regarding the 1992 massacres that killed judges Giovanni Falcone and Paolo Borsellino.

Judge Santi Bolognaha ruled that the evidence acquired does not allow for the identification of specific individuals or the formulation of a reasonable conviction. The investigation sought to determine if the dossier regarding the relationship between Cosa Nostra and the public works system acted as a catalyst for the attacks, specifically the Via D'Amelio bombing.

The judge noted that while there was a “hostile and marginalizing climate” surrounding the judges at the Palermo Prosecutor's Office between 1990 and 1992, there was no persuasive evidence to implicate specific members of the judiciary, political class, or business world as moral or material accomplices to the massacres.
