Caltanissetta to host historical tour of 16th-century city

A guided historical tour titled ‘The 16th-Century City of Francesco II Moncada’ will take place in Caltanissetta on Tuesday, September 1, as part of the ‘Le Notti di BCsicilia’ event. The tour is scheduled to begin at 21:00 at Viale Regina Margherita.

The initiative is promoted by BCsicilia in collaboration with several local organizations, including the Rotary Club, Lions Club, and Inner Wheel, with the patronage of the Municipality of Caltanissetta. Historians Luigi Santagati and Rosanna Zaffuto Rovello will lead the tour.

The event is inspired by the recent discovery of Prince Francesco II Moncada’s diary in Spain. The diary has allowed for a reconstruction of Caltanissetta as it existed in 1587, during a period of significant expansion and as the seat of a princely court that may have included the painter Artemisia Gentileschi. The tour is free and open to the public.
