Caltrain implements new passenger code of conduct and reports bicycle thefts

Caltrain is implementing new measures to address passenger behavior and security. The Peninsula Corridor Joint Powers Board unanimously approved the transit service’s first formal passenger code of conduct on September 3. The code prohibits behaviors such as smoking, fighting, spitting, harassment, discrimination, and tampering with emergency exits. While some prohibited acts are already covered by state law, the new code aims to provide clear expectations and empower conductors to warn or remove violators without escalating situations. An educational period will begin on October 5, with the code officially taking effect on October 19.

In a separate security matter, the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office announced the arrest of 28-year-old Jesus Molina-Barajas in connection with nearly a dozen bicycle thefts on Caltrain. Investigators used video footage from inside the trains to identify the suspect, who was arrested at a hotel in Hayward. Molina-Barajas faces suspicion of grand theft of personal property and petty theft and was released on supervised own recognizance following his arraignment.
