Calvert County Approves $420 Million FY27 Budget and Reappoints Planning Commissioners

The Calvert County Board of County Commissioners adopted a $420 million operating budget for fiscal year 2027, keeping the local income tax at 3.2% and the property tax at 96.7 cents per $100 of assessed value. The plan adds $169 million for the Calvert County Board of Education, funds six new School Resource Officer positions, allocates $10 million for road paving and other transportation projects, and launches a six‑year, $579 million capital improvement program that includes $183 million for school facilities.

At the same meeting, the board re‑appointed Victor Freeland and Gregory Kernan to three‑year terms on the Calvert County Planning Commission, with Freeland confirmed as chair. The volunteer commission advises on land use, zoning, and development issues and has recently been involved in discussions about a proposed data center in the county.
