Calvert County commissioners cited for Open Meetings Act violations

The Maryland Open Meetings Compliance Board has cited the Calvert County Board of County Commissioners for violating the state’s Open Meetings Act. The board found that the commissioners failed to post three sets of meeting minutes online, a requirement intended to ensure public transparency regarding closed sessions.

The county attributed the missing minutes to an administrative oversight and has since posted them. However, the board ruled that a violation occurred because posting the summaries sooner would have been practicable. The ruling follows a previous finding in August where the board determined the commissioners provided inadequate descriptions before closing meetings to the public.
