Calvià converts over 40 commercial premises into housing
In Calvià, more than 40 commercial premises have been converted into residential housing following the implementation of regional regulations designed to increase housing supply. This initiative, driven by the Government to address housing accessibility challenges, allows for the transformation of commercial spaces, offices, and other existing structures within residential buildings into homes.
The regulation, which remains available for applications until October 2027, permits these conversions provided the properties are on urban land and meet specific habitability standards. To facilitate the process, certain density and parking requirements have been relaxed, though a limit of one dwelling per 60 square meters of buildable residential area is maintained. Municipal sources indicate that additional requests from interested owners are currently being processed.
