Calvin Lucyshyn, the former owner of Winchester Galleries in Oak Bay, has pled guilty to fraud over $5,000. Lucyshyn, a former accountant, purchased the gallery in 2018 with a $450,000 family loan.

According to court proceedings and an agreed statement of facts, Lucyshyn engaged in a scheme involving the mishandling of consigned artwork. Between 2020 and 2022, he relocated hundreds of pieces to various storage lockers without the consent or knowledge of the artists or estates. Many of these works were reportedly kept in disordered or unsafe conditions.

In April 2022, police executed search warrants and recovered approximately 1,000 pieces of art from regional storage lockers, with an estimated value in the millions of dollars. The gallery closed in July 2021, leaving many artists facing payment delays and difficulties retrieving their property. Lucyshyn appeared for a sentencing hearing on August 31, 2026.
