Calvin Stengs returns to AZ after ending Feyenoord stint

Calvin Stengs, the 27‑year‑old Dutch attacking midfielder, terminated his contract with Feyenoord in 2026 after two injury‑plagued seasons and a short, largely unused loan at Pisa in Serie A. In his debut season at Feyenoord he recorded eight goals and seventeen assists, helping the club win the KNVB Cup and the Johan Cruijff Schaal. Persistent injuries limited him to sixteen appearances in the 2024/25 campaign and only 42 minutes across four substitute appearances for Pisa.

Stengs, a product of AZ's youth academy, has now rejoined the Alkmaar side on a free transfer. AZ expect his versatility – capable of playing as an attacking midfielder, right‑winger or deep‑lying playmaker – to add creativity and experience to the squad without a transfer fee, while acknowledging the risk associated with his recent injury record.
