CAM militants receive over 14‑year prison sentences for 2022 Araucanía attacks
Five members of the Coordinadora Arauco Malleco (CAM) were sentenced to more than 14 years of effective imprisonment for a violent attack carried out in November 2022 in Chile’s Araucanía region. The court found them guilty of arson, robbery with violence, kidnapping and illegal possession of ammunition, among other offenses, and imposed additional fines of 10 UTM (about $716,000). The sentences include permanent loss of political rights and a ban on holding public office or professional positions while the penalties are in force.
Senator Miguel Becker praised the rulings, describing the convicted individuals as “terrorist cowards” and emphasizing the importance of the decision for restoring rule of law in the Macrozona Sur. He called the lengthy prison terms a clear signal that such violence will be met with decisive judicial action.
