Cam Sholly to depart Yellowstone National Park for NFWF role

Cam Sholly is stepping down as the superintendent of Yellowstone National Park after nearly eight years in the role and nearly 30 years of federal service. He will join the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation (NFWF) as its chief operating officer in late September.

During his tenure at Yellowstone, Sholly oversaw $1.5 billion in conservation and infrastructure projects funded by the Great American Outdoors Act and philanthropic support. Key achievements included investments in native fisheries, wildlife conservation, and expanded bison transfers to Tribal nations. He also launched a major public-private employee housing initiative.

Sholly’s leadership included managing the park through the COVID-19 pandemic, record-breaking visitation levels, and the catastrophic flooding of 2022. Following those floods, the park was able to reopen 93% of its area within 20 days. Sholly, a U.S. Army veteran, previously held various leadership roles within the National Park Service, including directing the Midwest Region.
