Cam Skattebo cleared for Giants training camp after backflip mishap

New York Giants running back Cam Skattebo said he is "99.9% OK" following a serious leg and ankle injury that required surgery after he was hurt in a Week 8 game against the Philadelphia Eagles on Oct. 26. While recovering, Skattebo performed an ill‑advised backflip at a Fanatics Fest event in New York City on July 18, landing awkwardly on his right ankle. Team medical and training staff confirmed the stunt did not set back his rehabilitation.

General manager Joe Schoen and head coach John Harbaugh expressed displeasure, noting the need for young players to be mindful of health and public perception. Schoen said he would rather Skattebo avoid such actions, and Harbaugh joked, "If you’re going to do it, at least land it." Skattebo acknowledged the mistake, stating he will not attempt another backflip and will focus on training camp. He also recalled his rookie season stats—410 rushing yards and five touchdowns in eight games—and his brief appearance on WWE’s Monday Night Raw after surgery. Skattebo’s goal is to be ready for Week 1 and lead the Giants’ backfield in his sophomore NFL campaign.
