Cam Skattebo faces penalty controversy following injury comeback
New York Giants running back Cam Skattebo has drawn attention following a controversial unnecessary roughness penalty during a game against the Houston Texans. The penalty was called after Skattebo lowered his helmet while making a 7-yard gain against safety M. J. Stewart.
Former Philadelphia Eagles player Jason Kelce criticized the officiating on the ‘New Heights’ podcast, calling it ‘the dumbest penalty in the world.’ Kelce argued that if a running back lowers his shoulder to gain yardage and his head follows, the defender should bear the responsibility of the contact. Giants coach John Harbaugh also expressed visible frustration with the decision.
Despite the penalty, Skattebo recorded a career-high 124 yards on 17 carries, contributing to a 27-21 overtime victory for the Giants. This performance follows a significant recovery period detailed in a new team documentary, which chronicles his journey back to the field after a season-ending ankle injury sustained against the Philadelphia Eagles last year.
