Camacol calls for fiscal stability to restore housing investment in Colombia

Guillermo Herrera, executive president of Camacol, has stated that Colombia must prioritize fiscal consolidation before the government can effectively restore housing sector investment. Speaking at the Colombian Construction Congress, Herrera noted that competing demands for health, security, and reconstruction have significantly reduced the funds available for housing financing compared to previous years.

Herrera highlighted the current budgetary constraints, noting that of Fonvivienda’s $709,000 million budget, only $87,000 million remains available for new spending due to existing commitments. While he emphasized the need to support the government in fiscal adjustments, he maintained that the industry must continue to advocate for subsidies for low-income households once the public accounts are stabilized.
