Camacol to build 27 homes for earthquake victims in Chocó
Camacol, in partnership with the Corporación El Minuto de Dios, has announced a plan to construct and deliver 27 homes for families affected by the earthquake that struck the Chocó department on August 10. The project, focused on the municipality of Quibdó, involves an investment exceeding 4.5 to 5 billion pesos.
The initiative aims to establish the region's first formal neighborhood, featuring single-family homes, urban design, public spaces, and designated areas for community use to help rebuild the social fabric. The construction and urban intervention phase is expected to take approximately six months.
This response follows efforts by Camacol to provide technical assistance to the region. In August, a brigade of 48 volunteer professionals conducted infrastructure assessments in various Chocó municipalities to evaluate damage. Reports indicate that the earthquake impacted approximately 28,000 homes, with over 5,000 being destroyed.
