Camaldoli manifesto proposes new vision for European integration

Cardinal Matteo Maria Zuppi, president of the Italian Episcopal Conference (Cei), has introduced a new volume titled ‘Un Codice per una nuova Europa’ (A Code for a New Europe). The work is the result of a collective study and reflection process that began in July 2023 at the Camaldoli monastery.

The project serves as a political and cultural manifesto aimed at completing the European integration project and countering nationalism. It draws inspiration from the 1943 Code, which was written by Catholic intellectuals during World War II to envision a future of peace and democracy. The new document is the product of a laboratory involving over 120 experts and is supported by dozens of associations and movements, seeking to place the person at the center of European discourse through a combination of culture and faith.
