Camargo Chili Chipotle Seeks Geographical Indication Protection in Chihuahua

State Rural Development Secretary Mauro Parada Muñoz and local deputy Arturo Zubía Fernández toured the Camargo facilities that bake and smoke the region’s traditional chipotle chilies. During the visit they delivered the application to the Mexican Institute of Industrial Property (IMPI) requesting Geographical Indication (GI) status for the Chile Chipotle of Camargo, a move described as historic for the state.

Producers in Camargo have more than 50 years of experience and consider the chipotle a flagship agro‑industrial product that already reaches national and international markets. Officials said the GI will protect the product’s quality and reputation, strengthen regional identity, and create new economic opportunities for local growers and the broader Chihuahua economy.
